Since its creation in 2016, Crosstext has specialised on the precise and creative aspects of working with the German and English languages. 

The gathered experience spans everything from translating intricate, heady and language-barrier-blurring artist biographies for music festivals, over interpreting precisely formulated press releases or charmingly edited promotional company brochures, to sensitively subtitling films and copywriting texts of banking websites.

There are, of course, a vast number of translators working with the German/English language pair. A true and intimate native speaker knowledge of both languages is, however, usually not given. This is where Crosstext excels. When your text, no matter how quirky, needs to be as authentic in German as you have created it in English, then you’re on Crosstext's home turf! Crosstext was created by a trilingually and triculturally raised person with extensive global mileage, which resulted in enthusiasm for languages and an intimate, native speaker knowledge of the English, German, Serbo-Croatian and Bosnian languages.

The process of learning these languages at young age and in the respective countries endows a person with a certain sensibility for colloquially and culturally authentic expressions, as only someone who has grown up with a language can possess.

German secondary schooling, as well as an academic career at LaTrobe University in Melbourne, Australia have in turn strengthened the grasp on specialized and academic texts and have created extensive research abilities in German and English.

BIOGRAPHICAL BIAS

Born in Bosnia, starting school and growing up in Northern Germany, tertiary studies and transition to adulthood in Melbourne, Australia.

Now, since 2010, back in Germany once again - at least picking up a talent for languages along the way for the troubles.

The talent proved useful and the love for words developed into a profession: Adis Begovic, under the moniker Crosstext, has been translating, subtitling, creating and proof-reading everything and anything to do with text since 2016.

€ 0.03 per keystroke.

Keystrokes include all the characters of a text, including spaces. A text comprised of 1500 keystrokes would in turn cost € 45 to translate.

Texts that are technically demanding or difficult to formulate may cost € 0.04 per keystroke due to higher time demands.

subtitling

€ 60 per hour.

For every hour of work, about 5 minutes of video can be subtitled. This is strongly dictated by the video material, as the time it takes to create subtitles varies considerably depending on speech density and editing style.

Subtitles can be delivered in English and in German, regardless of which language the source material is written in. Subtitles are synchronised to the speaker in a way which allows for a pleasant reading experience. The files are provided in the desired format (i.e.: .srt, .sub, .ass).

YouTube and most other video platforms allow for an extremely easy addition of subtitles to their videos without any effect on video or view metrics.

Approximately 30-45 minutes of video can be subtitles per day.

COPYWRITING

Copywriting / text creation can be requested in both English and German, in whole or in part.

Costs are dictated by the type of work required.

transcripts

Audio or video transcripts can be provided in English or German. The standard hourly rate of € 60 applies.

PROOF-READING

Proofreading of all German or English texts can be commissioned and will be completed with a focus on grammar, spelling and expression. Extensive commentary on the changes made is provided. Proof-reading is charged at the standard hourly rate.

Jobs which need to be completed within 24 hours will incur a 15% surcharge.

TEXT

Technical texts to be transcribed as accurately as possible, or creative texts to be interpreted with finesse and authenticity; everything is edited with loving precision.

Both languages are spoken at a native speaker level. You can therefore be sure that the translation is going to be of an impressive quality, while the feel of your work will remain authentic even for a native speaker.

SUBTITLES

Film is subtitled by hand and in great detail. Emphasis is placed on creating captions which are pleasing to the eye and which harmonise with scene changes. Subtitles are synchronised accurately to speech patterns and take great care to authentically capture the feel of the source material.

Subtitles not only significantly expand the target audience as many people speak English, they are an enormously important part of audio-visual accessibility. They give those who are hard of hearing the chance to enjoy your material.
